Faulty Drywall / Chinese Drywall

ImageAs if New Orleans area homeowners haven't had enough to deal with after Katrina and the current sagging real estate market, Louisiana residents are now facing numerous reports of a potentially serious defect in drywall that was used in the repair of thousands of homes in the gulf south region.

It has been revealed that foreign-manufactured drywall used to repair hurricane damage throughout the Gulf South contained multiple contaminants that rendered the drywall faulty for normal residential and commercial construction.  The problematic drywall has been known to emit one or more sulfer compounds including sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and, among others, iron disulfide.

When combined with a humid environment (as is all too familiar in the New Orleans area), the presence of these sulfur compounds can lead to the release of sulfuric acid or similar toxic emissions.  There have been reports of these toxic substances wreaking havoc on both property and person.  The sulfuric acid has been known to corrode copper pipes; corrode A/C and refrigerator coils causing them to fail; corrode and destroy electrical wiring and plumbing.  It has also been known to harm other metals such as brass and silver.

Since the emissions can destroy metals, it is no wonder that those exposed to these emissions have complained of numerous physical defects such as allergic reactions, coughing, sinus and throat infections, respiratory problems and a host of other health concerns.

One of the most notable signs that you may have defective drywall is the smell of rotten eggs.  If you have had sheetrock/drywall installed in your home since Hurricane Katrina and are experiencing any of the foregoing problems, please contact us immediately to determine your legal rights.
